September Adventures: The Best Hikes Within 100 Miles of Billings

One of my favorite things about living in Billings? We’re surrounded by adventure in every direction. As a realtor, I spend a lot of time helping people find their place here—and part of what makes Billings such a great place to call home is how easy it is to sneak away and recharge on a trail. Whether it’s a quick hike after work or a weekend drive to the mountains, I love getting out and soaking in the beauty that’s right at our doorstep.

Here are some of my go-to September spots—all within about 100 miles of Billings:

Four Dances & The Rimrocks – Right Here in Town

When I need fresh air but don’t have time for a big trip, Four Dances is my quick fix. It’s an easy trail with jaw-dropping views of the Yellowstone River. And of course, the Rimrocks are Billings’ crown jewel—perfect for an evening walk or clearing your head after a busy day showing homes.

Columbus – Waterfalls & River Views

A short drive west gets you to Columbus, where trails like Montana Power Dam or Lost Lake are great for a day trip. But my favorite? Woodbine Falls. It’s a short hike with a huge waterfall reward, and I never get tired of it. The drive out there is just as relaxing as the trail itself.

Red Lodge – Mountain Playground

Red Lodge is one of the best parts of living here. In less than two hours you’re in alpine country, walking along creeks and meadows. Trails like Lake Fork or West Fork are some of my personal favorites—I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve taken them. It’s the perfect spot when I want a little mountain magic without going too far.

Hardin – Wide-Open Skies

Sometimes I trade the mountains for the prairie. Near Hardin, the Deep Ravine Trail is short and easy, but the sweeping Big Sky views make it worth it. It’s the kind of hike where you just breathe deeper and slow down.

Why I Love Calling Billings Home

For me, it’s not just about selling houses—it’s about helping people find a community that fits their lifestyle. And in Billings, that lifestyle often includes a trail within minutes, or a mountain adventure just down the road. Whether you love sandstone cliffs, alpine lakes, or prairie sunsets, you can have it all from here.

September is one of my favorite months to hit the trails—the air is crisp, the leaves are starting to turn, and every path feels like a reset button. If you’re new to Billings (or thinking about making it your home), I’d love to share not just the neighborhoods, but also these nearby adventures that make living here so special.
